The headline pretty much sums up the Leadership Seminar held Sept. 29th in the Cairo High School Band Room!  Over 150 kids from 9 different schools attended the almost 3 hour session ..... and none of them were bored.  Any body that can keep the attention of that many teenagers for that long has my respect!  The thing is ....they had a blast!   And they learned!

The seminar was about Leadership ... what a leader is and isn't, how to be an effective leader, about doing what's right, dealing with peer pressure, getting out of your comfort zone and MUCH more.

Dr. Tim got the kids involved ..... he had them change seats several times during the seminar and speak to the stranger now sitting next to them ....  he had them rub each other's shoulders and then say "Thank You" without speaking,   he had them stand up and hum a chord with their hands at their sides, close to but not touch the hands of the people next to them .... then on cue the grabbed the hand of the person on either side of them .... and the chord SANG!  And that is just the tip of the iceberg!   He demonstrated with a hand exercise how an effective leader focuses on the "we/us" not the "I/me".  He had the kids do the hand exercise to let them see for themselves the difference in "I/me" and "we/us".

The Hand Game

When was the last time a parent saw a child go up to someone that's   not a music star or big time athlete and stand in line to shake his hand and ask for an autograph?  Probably never!  Kids from this seminar did just that!

At the Parent's Seminar, Dr. Tim confirmed what we (band parents) already knew .... Band (music) is GOOD FOR OUR KIDS!  Finally ...scientists and researchers are doing studies that also confirms that music is GOOD FOR OUR KIDS!
